I often feel like an idealist. I see the world through a different lens. I don’t want to get into what I have and haven’t been diagnosed with as an individual but I see a common thread with anyone who has experienced anything in the mental health DSM. And I wanted to talk about it.
People with mental health diagnoses are usually smart. They have the chemistry in their brain all wonky but they have creative and intelligent minds.
So what does idealism have to do with it? Well, people who feel victimized by life or diagnosis or the chemistry in their brain usually want to see the world and themselves change for the better to get to a place where they are happy, comfortable and thriving.
Idealism can come with these struggles. I mean, so can nihilism but I often feel like when someone feels like they have even the smallest amount of personal power you can change from nihilism to idealism. They’re almost like two sides of the same coin. I think there is a finer line between idealism and nihilism than what people imagine.
I would like to challenge you to something. The next time you’re relating to someone with a cup half full type or someone with depression or really big (too big) emotions think is this person REALLY a negative person? or are they just a suffering idealist? Because isn’t that what a nihilist is. A suffering idealist?
